Medvedev says OCSE needs modernization

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said the OCSE begins to lose its potential and needs modernization, RIA Novosti reports.

At the summit in Astana, Medvedev stated that Russia, with its partners, had presented a draft regulation of the OCSE and proposals on normalizing its structures.

He believes that relying on the Security Platform adopted as the result of the summit in 1999 in Istanbul the organization can become a driving force in the process of cooperation between the NATO, the EU, the European Council, the CIS and the CSTO.

In the conclusion of his speech, President Medvedev congratulated Ukraine on its election as the chairman of the OCSE in 2013.
