Russia, Iran sign agreement on cultural cooperation

Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Orientation Seyed Mohammad
Hosseini and the Russian Minister of Culture Alexander Avdeyev have
met in Tehran, where they had bilateral talks and an exchange of views
on the development of cultural ties, Iran News reports.


Hosseini said that the visit of Avdeyev to Iran shows Russian devotion
to developing cultural ties. He invited Russian cultural figures to
take part in cinematographic, theatre and musical festivals, art and
said that Iranian artists are ready to participate in Russian cultural
programs.


The Iranian minister said that Iran has translations of Russian
belles-lettres, drama. A lot of Iranian students study in Russia. He
said that they are ready to organize an Week of Iranian Cinema in
Moscow.


Avdeyev said that Russia has a school of Iranian studies. Russian
museums and libraries are willing to demonstrate Iranian books and
valuables. Such cultural figures as Saadi and Hayam are well-known in
Russia.


Avdeyev said that he shares Hosseini's condemnation of extremism. He
pointed out the joint session with participation of the Russian
Orthodox Church and Iranian officials.


The ministers concluded the meeting with signing of a memorandum on
cultural cooperation between the two countries. The Russian minister
also met the head of the Organization for Culture and Islamic Links.


He was assisted by the head of Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky and head
of the Museum of the Culture of Orient People's Alexander Sedov. They
discussed the second round of the Culture Weeks of the two countries,
the Russian Culture Week in Tehran in 2012 and the Tehran Culture Week
in Moscow in 2013.
