Turkmen president meets US Secretary of State

Turkmen foreign policy is an important factor in strengthening
security and stability in the region, US Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton said at a meeting with the Turkmen President Gurbanguly
Berdimuhamedov, Trend reports, citing the local media.


The meeting was held in Astana within the framework of the OSCE
summit. The national TV channel Altyn Asyr said that Clinton passed on
the regards of US President Barack Obama.


Turkmenistan supports a policy of positive neutrality, the country
will celebrate the 15th anniversary of its independence on December
12, 2010.


At the meeting, the sides stated the positive development of
inter-governmental relations. The US Secretary of State said that the
White House supports Turkmen initiatives concerning energy security,
which were announced in September 2010 at the 65th session of the UN
General Assembly in New York.


Turkmenistan also made proposals on establishment of specialized
regional centers of the UN for the countries of Central Asia and the
Caspian Region and to establish a forum for security, peace and
cooperation. Ashkhabad announced its readiness to hold inter-Afghan
peace negotiations.


The UN has its headquarters of the regional center for preventive
diplomacy for Central Asian countries in Ashkhabad.
