North Caucasus envoy announces energy efficiency program

The Russian president’s envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District Alexander Khloponin says the population should be taught about simple energy saving methods.

“It is necessary to have meetings with the population, including school lessons for children to explain simple things like “turn the lights off when you go out,” Khloponin said at an energy efficiency meeting on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reports.

He added that this work should involve the mass media.
Khloponin also reiterated that regional and municipal energy saving programmes must be developed by August 1.

“Every region needs people responsible for energy efficiency. We need to appoint people in regional and municipal offices by May 1 and propose energy efficiency training centers’ programmes by June 1,” he said.
