The meeting of foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty
Organization (CSTO) will modernize the work of the organization in
protecting the interests of its member-states, Russian Minister of
Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov said after a session today, Vestnik
Kavkaza reports.
He said that the events in Kyrgyzstan this summer show the necessity
to improve the mechanism of crisis reaction of the CSTO. Joint
measures stabilized the situation.
Lavrov noted that the ministers agreed on issues of the meeting and
approved a package of documents before the start of the Council of
Collective Security.
The Russian minister concluded that Russia will hand the chairmanship
in the CSTO to Belarus, wishing them success.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Martynov assured that
his country understands the importance of improving the CSTO mechanism
and will do its best to achieve the goals.
