Turkey is seeking elimination of the "injustice" that appeared in its
relations with Israel after the Israeli special forces attacked the
marine convoy "Freedom Flotilla" on the 31st of May, the official
representative of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Selcuk Unal announced
today, RIA Novosti reports.
The Israelis attacked the humanitarian convoy en route to the
Palestinian Gaza Strip. As a result of the attack, in which eight
Turkish men and one US citizen of Turkish origin were killed,
relations sharply deteriorated between Turkey and Israel, which
cooperated closely in the military-political sphere in the recent
past. After the incident, Ankara recalled its ambassador to Tel Aviv
and the Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly accused
Israel of conducting a policy of "state terrorism" and demanded a
formal apology and compensation for the families of those killed in
the attack.
A spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry told reporters that
contacts with Israel on the issue of normalization of bilateral
relations are ongoing.
