Moscow-St. Petersburg highway to stretch through Khimki forest

The Governmental Commission adopted today a final decision on the
route from Moscow to St. Petersburg. According to the decision, the
highway from Moscow to St. Petersburg will stretch through the forest
of Khimki, as originally planned, told reporters on Tuesday, the
Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov, RIA Novosti reports.

The project of a high-speed highway through the forest of Khimki
caused a wave of protests from ecologists and the public. In late
August, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev instructed the government to
suspend implementation of the project and gather the public and expert
opinions.
