European Parliament approves agreement on easing visa regime and readmission with Georgia

The European Parliament has approved the agreement on easing of the
visa regime and readmission with Georgia. The decision was backed by
the majority of votes and adopted at the plenary session of the
legislative structure in Strasburg, ITAR-TASS reports.

After the military operations in the South Caucasus in August 2008,
the European Union decided to expand cooperation with Tbilisi,
including easing of the visa regime, the European Commissioner for
Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström said.

The agreement will simplify the process of issuing entrance documents.
This mainly concerns businessmen, scientists, students and
journalists. The visa price was reduced from 60 to 35 euros for all
citizens. Georgia unilaterally introduced a visa-free regime with the
EU in 2006.
