The OSCE hopes for withdrawal of snipers from the contact line of
Armenian-Azerbaijani forces, the personal representative of the OSCE
chairman, Andrzej Kasprzyk, told a plenary OSCE monitoring of the
contact line, News Armenia reports.
Kasprzyk said that they are raising the issue at meetings with
ministers of foreign affairs and heads of state. The issue was raised
two years ago at the council in Helsinki. The UN reminded delegates
about the issue in Astana.
The representative said that the main goal of his group is to promote
trust and prevent shootouts. Kasprzyk said that he presents all the
information to the OSCE Minsk Group and to the OSCE chairman.
He also said that they have drawn conclusions about the violations of
the cease-fire regime, but that the conclusions may be wrong. The OSCE
official said that they need experts of ballistics and other spheres.
The group is too small, 6 people including himself, Kasprzyk said.
The OSCE representative stated that they cannot prove a violation of
the cease-fire regime if it occurs prior to their arrival. He added
that he understands the situation, regularly monitors the region and
knows about the position of forces.
