The prosecution service of South Ossetia has initiated 14 criminal
cases this month against contractors that failed to complete
construction and repair works of facilities damaged in the war of
August 2008, the State Committee for Information and Mass
Communications of South Ossetia said, RIA Novosti reports.
The cases were initiated as a result of the inter-department working
group of the General Prosecutors' Offices of Russia and South Ossetia.
The group was formed to control spending of finances provided for
restoration works in the republic. It was formed by a joint
declaration of the Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika and the
Prosecutor General of South Ossetia Taymuraz Khugayev.
The Russian group is headed by Anatoly Palamarchuk, chief of the main
department for monitoring of the legislative execution of the Russian
Prosecutor General's Office and the first Deputy Prosecutor General of
South Ossetia Eldar Kokoyev.
All the interested ministries, agencies and lawyers were invited to
analyse the work, check spending of every single penny for restoration
of the republic, Palamarchuk said.
