On the 22 of December the head of South Ossetia, Eduard Kokoity, met with Russian journalists. At the press conference the results of the year were summed up. The issues discussed included the reconstruction of residential areas in the republic, Russian-Ossetian relations, Russian investments in the South Ossetian economy, relations with Georgia and the problems of refugees, education and young people in South Ossetia.
According to Kokoity, 118 residential buildings have been reconstructed, while more 94 houses will be reconstructed by March 2011. He stated that South Ossetia is taking serious steps to improve regional security in the South Caucasus. Kokoity said that South Ossetia is ready to welcome both Ossetian and Georgian refugees.
The president of the republic expressed his gratitude to the Russian authorities for their effective help and support. This year South Ossetia received 6.8 billion rubles from Russia for reconstruction of the economic and social life of Ossetian population.
In conclusion, Kokoity emphasized that he wouldn't take part in the presidential elections in 2011.
