Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has ordered the country's
communication facilities to operate continuously during the New Year
holidays, Trend cites the Altyn Asyr channel.
On December 21, Turkmenistan had all communications and internet
services, provided by MTS, cut off. Approximately 2 million people
lost communications services. The company announced that the problem
was caused by the Ministry of Communication of Turkmenistan, which
pulled in the company's license ‘without giving reasons’. MTS filed a
lawsuit at the International Arbitration Court in Geneva.
The Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the decision of the
Communication Ministry law-based and legal. The message also said that
Turkmenistan has all the necessary technology, staff and organizations
for proper functioning of communications.
Altyn Asyr became the new Turkmen mobile operator. It has
approximately 500,000 clients.
The president said that implementation of new high technology is a key
factor for social-economic development and scientific and technical
progress.
