The Kazakh People's Assembly supports the initiative of a referendum
on extension of the presidential terms of Nursultan Nazarbayev until
December 6, 2020, Kazakhstan Today cites the text of the assembly.
Last Thursday a republic meeting was held on initiating a referendum
for prolongation of Nazarbayev's presidential terms in
Ust-Kamenogorsk.
The message says that Kazakhstan held a referendum on prolongation of
Nazarbayev's terms in 1995, keeping him in power until 2000. It says
that this was the right step and provided economic and social
progress. Kazakhstan overcame the global economic recession and
started forming industrial and innovative development.
The Central Electoral Commission of Kazakhstan registered an
initiative group to hold a referendum on prolongation of presidential
terms on Monday.
