Appointed several days ago by the interim government, the chairwoman of the Central Electoral Commission for elections and referendums, Tolekan Ismailova, has handed in her resignation, ITAR-TASS reports.
She explained that the decree on forming state agencies by the new Kyrgyz authorities has not undergone expert legal scrutiny yet. Ismailova does not want to be an “appointee”. She declared that six other Central Electoral Commission members didn't even know about their appointments until today.
“We can’t work without trust, so we need clarity, accountability, legitimacy and proper management. We call on the interim government to provide expert international and national scrutiny of all decrees,” – Ismailova said.
