Chechnya initiates case on money theft from police

In Chechnya an investigation has been initiated into a case against
two suspected fraudsters who stole over 900,000 rubles from the
Ministry of Interior Affairs, RIA Novosti reports.

The duty officer of the temporary detention center of Naurskiy
District police department, Valery Stubko, and a local named Visit
Gubashev are the suspects.

It is alleged that Gubashev drew up a false judicial act on collecting
finances from the police department for Stubko for participating in a
counter-terrorist operation.

Stubko presented the document to the Federal Treasury of Chechnya. He
received over 900,000 rubles in December 2008. Stubko took 200,000
from the sum and gave the rest to Gubashev.

A criminal case was initiated for fraud carried out by a group of
people for a large sum. The suspects may be sentenced to up to 6 years
imprisonment.
