The European Union replied to a protest note from the foreign ministry of Azerbaijan concerning the recent visit to Nagorno-Karabakh by a member of the European Parliament, Tomash Poreba.
The foreign relations services of the European Union weren't informed about the plans of Poreba in Karabakh the letter points out, Trend reports.
The department has no power over the European Parliament, including its decisions, adopted resolutions and the individual actions of its members.
The letter says that the EU respects the international principle of territorial integrity and considers that a visit to a country by any member of the EU should be coordinated with the officials of this country. During his visit to Armenia in early December, Mr Poreba didn't inform Azerbaijan about his intention to visit Karabakh. According to him, he visited Karabakh to get an objective view of the situation in the region.
