Russian quota for labour migrants set at 1.7 million in 2011

The quota for labour migrants in Russia for 2011 will amount to
1,754,584 people, with a reserve of 30%, the Ministry of Healthcare
and Social Development says.

73.5% of working migrants to Russia are skilled workers.

The Deputy Minister for Healthcare and Social Development, Maksim
Topilin, said that the demand for working migrants has dropped
compared to 2010. The regions registered 1.235 million labour migrants
(excluding the 30% reserve). The indicator last year was 1.398
million.

Enterprises making retail sales of alcoholic drinks, pharmacological
products and companies selling in booths and markets will be unable to
hire foreign citizens in 2011. Foreign citizens can still have up to a
quarter of the registered line-up of an organization in sporting
events. They are specialists preparing Russian sportsmen for games.
