North Korea proposes negotiations to resolve political crisis

North Korea has made a proposal to South Korea to start bilateral
talks on resolving the political crisis between the two countries, RIA
Novosti
cites Yonhap.

The initiative was approved at a meeting of the North Korean
government with political parties and social organizations.

The North Korean press said on January 1 that North Korea is devoted
to achieving peace and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
The situation on the peninsula became complicated after the attacks on
Yonphendo Island in the Yellow Sea on November 23, in which there were
civilian casualties. South Korea held military exercises near
Yonphendo Island on December 20, 2010. North Korea decided to avoid
taking any measures.

Nonetheless, Seoul held military training near the demilitarized zone
on December 23. North Korea warned of its readiness to start a war
using nuclear weapons.
