Russian State Duma to open spring session with 1,650 bills

The Russian State Duma will view 550 bills, 90 of them priority, on
Tuesday, Speaker of the Lower Chamber of Parliament Boris Gryzlov
said, RIA Novosti reports.

He noted that the portfolio contains 1,650 bills for consideration.
Summing up 2010, the Russian president noted the good work of the
parliament in implementing the president’s letter of 2009. Gryzlov
said that the letter’s main topics are demography, family upbringing
and protection of children’s rights.

Gryzlov recalled that the State Duma passed the bill on ratifying the
strategic arms reduction treaty at the last session in 2010. The
procedure will be continued in January.

The deputies will also view a bill on police on 1 March 2011.

He said that legal support for the innovative activities of Russian
enterprises, such as tax benefits, is still an important issue. Such
laws will be adopted in the spring.

Gryzlov emphasized that 2011 is the last year of the deputies of the
fifth convocation and will see elections for the sixth convocation in
December this year.
