Russian president Dmitri Medvedev thinks that terrorism must be fought
not only by force but also through improving
the economic situation in the North Caucasus, which is why he assigned
Alexander Khloponin as his representative in
this federal district, RIA-Novosti reports. Medvedev is travelling to
Norway at the invitation of King Harald V, and
gave an interview to a Norwegian journal. He also said that the
traditional islam found in the regions of North Caucasus should be
supported, and not the islam 'imported from abroad', which is often
linked with terrorist ideas. Medvedev added that the terrorists must
not be regarded as 'freedom fighters', as freedom fighters would never
have exploded the bombs on the Moscow metro.
