Azerbaijan sends protest note to U.S. Congress

Azerbaijan's ruling party said on Friday the adoption of the resolution "On the Armenian Genocide" by the U.S. House Foreign Relations Committee was a distortion of historical reality and a gross violation of the principles of justice.

“We expressed our categorical protest in connection with the adoption by the U.S. Congress of this unfair decision containing elements of the falsification of history, and have sent a corresponding letter,” Ali Akhmedov, deputy head of the Yeni Azerbaijan Party (YAP), told the Trend news agency.

“In our address we stated openly that the decision taken by Congress was directed against the interests of friendly and brotherly Turkey, as well as those of Azerbaijan,” he went on.

Akhmedov added that the note of protest also said that the making of such a decision was an instrument of pressure on the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border, and was also directed against the quick resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
