New swine flu outbreak in Stavropol Territory

An outbreak of swine flu has been registered at the Krasnogvardeyskiy
District of the Stavropol Territory. Over 10,000 pigs will be killed,
Interfax reports.


The outbreak area at the "Nadezhda" production complex had
approximately 9,000 pigs, which will be killed, deputy head of the
veterinary service of the Stavropol Territory, Georgy Jailidi said.
He noted that 2,000 pigs have already been killed.


The investigation is inspecting the case, RIA Novosti cites Yekaterina
Danilova, senior assistant of the Investigation Committee for the
Stavropol Territory.


Danilova clarified that violation of veterinary rules may be punished
with up to two years of prison.


The press-service of the region's Emergencies Ministry said that the
outbreak at "Nadezhda" was registered on January 6. Specialists from
the All-Russian research institute of veterinary virology and
microbiology found the virus on January 7. An emergency situation
regime was implied at the Krasnogvardeyskiy District on January 8.
