Russia, Armenia to establish 9 joint ventures in military sphere

Russia and Armenia will establish 9 joint ventures in military
industry as part of a cooperation program between the two countries,
Secretary of the National Security Council Artur Bagdasaryan said at a
conference on Wednesday, News Armenia reports.


Bagdasaryan noted that Armenia improved military-technical cooperation
within the CSTO in 2010. He reminded that an agreement was signed with
the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia in
2010. The document started cooperation in 11 aspects.


Bagdasaryan said that it will allow Armenian enterprises to solve
social problems, open new workplaces, modernize and support the army.


The official said that the agreement on the prolongation of the
presence of the Russian military in Armenia will bring security to the
country and will help Armenia purchase modern arms and military
equipment.


Russia and Armenia signed the protocol on August 20 on prolongation of
the terms of presence of the Russian military base in Gumri. The
agreement was signed in 1995. It was prolonged by 49 years to 2046,
starting from its day of ratification in 1997.
