Abkhazia marks Creation Day

Abkhazia marks on Friday Azhyrnykhua, the Day of World Creation,
coinciding with the New Year of the old calendar, RIA Novosti reports.


Azhyrnykhua is a state holiday and a day off. Many families paryed on
January 13.


Levan Solomko, 39, living in Moscow told RIA Novosti that his people
observe the holiday. He said that he has been taking part in prayers
since early childhood and pays special attention to the ritual.


Solomko expressed hope that the tradition will continue. He said that
his 8-year old son, Constantine, is also taking part in the prayers.


The prayer is concluded after each member of the family repeats it,
eats a piece of sacrificial meat and drinks a glass of 'clear'
(sugar-free) wine.
