Several dozen militants may be given an amnesty in Ingushetia, the
Ingush president's press-secretary, Kaloy Akhilgov, told the radio
station ‘Russian News Service’. The pardoning proposal will be
presented to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. It is being prepared
at the office of the envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District.
Akhilgov said that Chechnya had demonstrated the positive results of
such an amnesty. He said that such a practice would allow people who
had accidentally became members of illegal armed formations to "leave
the forests" and return to a peaceful life.
Akhilgov believes that Medvedev will most likely approve the initiative.
