The Defense Secretary was welcomed by Ilham Aliyev, the Azeri president, AzerTag reports. Gates passed a letter from Barack Obama to him. The minister mentioned that Obama had very positive memories about his first visit to Azerbaijan as a senator. Aliyev thanked him for the letter.
An exchange of opinions on military cooperation between the countries has taken place. Questions of supplying US military forces in Afghanistan through Azeri territory will also be discussed.
