Turkmenistan considers Russia as a strategic partner, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov said on Tuesday at the opening of a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, RIA Novosti reported.
"The great Russia is a strategic and reliable partner," Berdymukhammedov said. According to him, Ashgabat attaches great importance to cooperation with Russia in the political, trade-economic and educational spheres.
In turn, Lavrov said that the agreements reached during the 2009 visit of the president of Turkmenistan to Moscow are being realized. "Today's visit will give a new quality to our cooperation,” Lavrov said.
Russia's foreign minister arrived in Ashgabat on Monday for a two-day working visit to discuss a wide range of issues of bilateral collaboration.
