Russian president calls for halt to spread of ethnic extremism

The support of civil society and national consent are compulsory conditions for Russian statehood in its current form. In order to achieve this, measures need to be taken against the spread of ethnic extremism, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at a meeting with members of the Public Chamber, ITAR-TASS reports.


Medvedev called for steps that would prevent extremism, which is based on lies, distortion of cultural traditions and history.


The president believes that such a goal requires the preservation and promotion of the true values of all peoples living in a multinational country, and the cultures of peoples. The president pointed out that Russian culture is the backbone of Russian statehood.
