Russian President Dmitry Medvedev believes that the main goal of the
Federal Security Service (FSB) is fighting the terrorist threat, he
said after the terrorist attack at Domodedovo airport, ITAR-TASS
reports.
The president demanded the punishment of officials guilty for security
lapse that led to the terrorist attack. Heads of law-enforcing
structures should also be punished, he said.
Medvedev spoke at the FSB headquarters on Moscow's Lubyanka Square.
The annual session was organized after the terrorist attack at
Domodedovo airport in Moscow. The attack killed 35 and injured over
100.
Medvedev said that there was "anarchy" at the airport and ordered a
full-control system to be introduced and urged citizens to be tolerant
and understanding to the discomfort.
Medvedev ordered the FSB authorities to consider responsibility of
people in the service, the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the
government - to make propositions on dismissing people responsible for
transport security, the prosecution - to punish such people.
The president blamed the airport's authorities for the suicide bomber.
The authorities disagree, saying that the blast happened at the zone
where non-passengers are allowed. Thus, the airport security is
responsible, they say.
Dmitry Medvedev, accompanied by the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin and
the Minister of Healthcare Tatyana Golikova, visited the injured at
the Institute of Sklifosovsky.
The science and research institute of Sklifosovsky received 11 people
injured in the blast, one of them is in grave condition. Most of the
injured received brain injuries, fragmentation wounds and mine-blast
traumas. Seven have undergone surgeries. The condition of others,
according to the head of the institute Andzor Khubutia, is not under
threat. They will be re-examined today and will undergo surgery if
necessary.
