Today on February 23 Russia celebrates the Defender of the Motherland Day. Up until 2006, February 23 was Red Army Day, after which it got its current name – Defender of the Motherland Day.
The president of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, congratulated Russian servicemen.
Last night Medvedev wrote in his Twitter blog, “I congratulate all defenders of our motherland on this holiday! Russia needs peace. So we have to be strong.”
“Russia needs a stable inter-political situation. This depends on the situation involving our servicemen. We should treat the military forces respectfully. Even though recent years have been difficult, we have managed to defend items of the budget which are very important for the army,” Medvedev stated.
He also added that the world is unstable. Countries have to resolve internal problems. Terrorists threaten not only Russia, but also other nations of the world.
Medvedev expressed his gratitude to all military men of Russia.
Leaders of the regions congratulated servicemen too.
