Georgia marks Mother’s Day

Georgia is marking the Mother’s Day. It is a day off. The day was set by Zviad Gamsakhurdia in 1991. The day replaced the International Women’s Day on March 8.


Eduard Shevardnadze restored March 8 as a day off.


The Georgian Civil Registry Office said that there are more cases of third and more children born to a family. 6153 third children were born in Georgia in 2009, 6807 in 2010.


Georgia had 46,060 babies born in 2006, 48,027 in 2007, 57,263 in 2008, 61,839 in 2009 and 62,726 in 2010. 52% of the children born in 2010 were boys, 48% - girls.


Georgia registered 31,464 weddings in 2010, compared with 31,319 in 2009.
