The police have identified the militant who blew himself up with a grenade in Nalchik on Tuesday. He is suspected of four attacks on police officers and two murders, the spokesman of the Russian Investigation Committee in Kabardino-Balkaria told RIA Novosti.
A road patrol attempted to stop a man near school N19 in Nalchik on Tuesday at 20.30 (Moscow time). The man started running away and tried throwing a grenade at the police. It blew up in his hands. The police found a Stechkin pistol with 20 rounds of 9 mm.
The source said that the man was Beslan Abazov, aged 28, from Nalchik. Abazov attacked a member of the branch of the Krasnodar University of the Russian Interior Ministry and a road police officer in Nalchik on July 2, attacked an FSB officer on July 5 and attempted to blow up a road police vehicle in September 2010. He also murdered two citizens in Nalchik in September and December 2010.
