Yerevan has joined the European campaign against racial discrimination, held by the UNITED For Intercultural Action, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21, News Armenia reports.
The Armenian Progressive Youth public organization said that European cities will hold an anti-discrimination campaign on March 22-27, organized by the UNITED For Intercultural Action, consisting of 560 European organizations.
Four organizations will join the campaign in Yerevan: the Armenian Progressive Youth, AEGEE-Yerevan, Institute of Civil Society and the Youth Spirit organization. Presentations of cultures of national minorities living in Armenia, demonstrations of films, online flash mobs, information campaigns and lectures for youth and students will be held.
The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is held on March 21.
The day was set by the UN General Assembly in 1966, as a memorial for the victims of the peaceful protests in 1960, when the police killed 69 people protesting against obligatory passport registration of Africans in South Africa.
