Yerevan mayor plans to privatize public transport

Public transport system in Yerevan should be privatized as soon as possible, said Yerevan mayor  Karen Karapetyan at a plenary session of the Public Council of Armenia devoted to the problems of the capital, Novosti Armenia reports.

"The price of travel on public transport in Yerevan does not cover costs, and therefore creates a situation that we all observe. Public transport must passed to business sector and optimized," said the mayor.

According to him, Yerevan public transport - minibuses, buses and subway – often follows the same routes and is confusing and inefficient.

The mayor added that in order to manage the cash flow better it is planned to introduce the common method of payment for all transport with the size of fare dependant on the travel distance.
