Kabardino-Balkaria marks on Monday the Day of the Rebirth of the Balkarian People, RIA Novosti-South reports.
The Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR passed a decree on restoring the Soviet Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria on March 28, 1957. The Balkarian people were allowed to return to their homeland after 13 years of exile.
The president of Kabardino-Balkaria made the date a public holiday in 1994, the 50th anniversary of Stalin’s deportation of Balkarians to Central Asia and Kazakhstan.
The events include a 50-kilometre motor rally at Chereksky District, rope-walker performances at Tyrnyauz. There will be art, book, exhibitions, sports events, and theatre performances.
