Soviet-era actress Lyudmila Gurchenko dies

Lyudmila Gurchenko, legendary actress of the Soviet cinema, People’s Artist of the USSR died in Moscow on Wednesday, aged 75, RIA Novosti cites her husband Sergey Senin as saying.


The actress was hospitalized with a broken hip in February. She was discharged in early March.


Lyudmila Gurchenko was born in Kharkov (Ukraine) on November 12, 1935. She acted in over 80 films. She was awarded with the Order of Merit for Homeland of 4th degree (2000) and an Honorary Award “Public Recognition” of 3rd degree (1998). She was actively performing in plays as well.


She is the author of such books as “My Adult Childhood”, “Applauses”, “The Ballet of Life” and “Lucia, Stop!”.


Gurchenko marked her 75th birthday in November 2010. She acted in the film “Pyostriye Sumerki” for which she composed the music and in which she starred and sung.
