Russian Central Muslim Administration requests land for mosque construction

The Russian Central Muslim Administration has requested the Moscow Mayor’s Office to provide five land plots for construction of a new mosque , the head of the administration, Mufti Talgat Tajuddin, said in an interview with Moskovskiye Novosti on Friday.


The mufti said that 8 hectares of land were to be provided in Moscow for construction of mosques for 5,000 people during Vladimir Putin’s presidency. A mosque was to be built three kilometers from the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, on Luzhnetskaya Naberezhnaya, opposite the Academy of Sciences. Land was not provided.


Tajuddin said that they plan to build four mosques for over 3,000 people and one for 7,000 people. One of the land sites will house the Moscow headquarters of the Russian Central Muslim Administration.


The location of the land plots is still unknown.
