Tbilisi starts constructing bypass road

The Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has started construction of a bypass road to improve traffic in Tbilisi, News.am reports.

The road will increase transit from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Central Asia to the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi and Europe.
Workers are currently leveling the area for the road. Construction of the 7-kilometer road will be complete in late 2011, News Georgia reports.

The Georgian Railways company said that moving the railway line from the outskirts of Tbilisi to the center of the city provided an extra land plot with a total area of 73 hectares.

The French company Apur is drawing up a plan for developing the territory.
