Georgian bus drivers face fines for unauthorized change of route

The Georgian capital is implementing a special project to improve traffic safety – Working Together for Safe Traffic Movement. In accordance with the program, aimed at safer movement of transport, construction companies carrying out road works should protect work zones with the help of modern equipment and road signs, Business Georgia reports.

"As a result of the improvement of roads, traffic volume and speed has significantly grown, which to some extent has had a negative impact on safety. For this reason, special attention should be paid to safety when road works are being carried out," the department of roads said.

Moreover, in the near future a new rule affecting buses and taxis coming from the regions to Tbilisi will come into effect. Any driver deviating from the established route will be fined 100 lari ($58).
