Russia and member-states of the CIS are celebrating the 66th anniversary of the Victory over Fascism. It is an official holiday and a day off in Russia and Azerbaijan.
The Heydar Aliyev Fund invited a group of students from the history section of the Moscow State University of Lomonosov. They will visit the Alley of Honour and lay flowers at the tomb of the National Hero, Heydar Aliyev, and Hero of the Soviet Union Azi Aslanova.
Students will make speeches at the Russian embassy in Azerbaijan and at a concert for veterans of the Great Patriotic War, organized with the assistance of the Heydar Aliyev Fund.
During the war Azerbaijan built 87 battalions, 1123 defense groups, formed five divisions and called up over 600,000 for service, half of whom did not return back alive.
170,000 citizens of Azerbaijan received orders and medals, 128 became Heroes of the Soviet Union.
Azerbaijani oil workers contributed to winning the war as well. They produced 75 million tons of oil.
