Georgian Parliament to discuss genocide of Cherkessians

The Georgian Parliament will start working on a document for the recognition of the genocide of the Cherkessians, Georgia Online reports.


Chairman of the committee for compatriots and Caucasus affairs Nugzar Tsiklauri said that the committee will probably discuss the issue on May 13. The topic was raised by the Cherkess communities in various world states.


Well-known rabbi and political analyst Abraham Shmulevich said recently that the Georgian Parliament may recognize the genocide before May 21. The Georgian minister for diasporas had a meeting with Chairman of the Cherkess Congress of Israel Uednen Uorkyzh. The minister said that there is a major lobby in the Georgian Parliament to support recognition of the genocide. They also discussed gradual lobbying of the Cherkess issue at Israel’s Knesset.
