Drug traffic threatens North Caucasus

Drug trafficking is the main reason for tensions in the North Caucasus, the head of the FDCS, Viktor Ivanov, believes, RIA Novosti reports.

“The South Federal District and the North Caucasus Federal District are difficult regions. One of the reasons is the trafficking of strong drugs, Afghan heroin and hashish,” he said in Stavropol.

Ivanov stressed that production of these drugs in Afghanistan has grown in recent times. According to the FDCS, 90% of all the heroin in the world is produced in Afghanistan.
