Azerbaijani deputies to tighten control over religious organizations

On Friday, the Azerbaijani parliament passed amendments to the Law "On freedom of Religion. " Essentially amendments were made by the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, Rabiyat Aslanova, 1news.az reports.

The law added an article "On the professional religious activities and religious leader" and made 19 amendments to the Law on Religious Freedom. According to amendments, all Islamic organizations operating in Azerbaijan, should reports on their activities to the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO).

Non-Islamic religious organizations will be required to submit reports on their activities to the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations and the Ministry of Justice.
