Al-Qaeda finds new leader

Al-Qaeda has appointed Ayman az-Zavahiri as its new leader, RIA Novosti reports.

Az-Zavahiri is a doctor and founder of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad
(EIJ). Washington accuses him of killing US citizens and attacks on
state structures.

The new leader has been on the wanted list since August 7, 1998. He
was involved in bombing US embassies in Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania) and
Nairobi (Kenya), in which over 200 people died. The FBI are offering
$25 million for information that leads to the arrest of az-Zavahiri.
