Militant detained in Chechnya’s Grozny

Police have detained a suspected militant in the Chechen capital of Grozny, a law enforcement spokesperson told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

The statement said the militant had fought under notorious Chechen separatist commander Ruslan Gelayev from March 1999 until November 1999.

Gelayev was known as the Black Angel by Russian forces, and died in 2004 of injuries sustained while attempting to cross into Georgia.
