Today Turkey and its foreign diplomatic missions celebrate Ataturk
Commemoration Day, the founder and the first president of the Turkish
Republic, reports TRT.
President Abdullah Gul said in his message on the occasion of the May
19 celebrations, "On this day, we are proud of our glorious history
and the accomplishments of our forefathers. We are full of hope as we
move towards a greater future."
“May 19, 1919 is the date when the Turkish nation had a say over its
own fate and its country. May 19, which constitutes a fresh and
powerful start for our nation, is also the symbol of our national
awakening. Ataturk's travelling to Samsun with the aim of saving the
country from the hands of its enemies and setting up a new state had a
deep impact on Turkish and world history. I gladly express that our
state and nation are stronger than ever. Turkey is a stable country
which succeeded in all fields. All efforts are directed to build a
greater Turkey in which the future generations will live in. Because
our biggest wealth, might and hope come from our children and youth."
