An earthquake with a magnitude of 5 points has happened in Iran today,
the US Geological Survey said, RIA Novosti reports.
The earthquake started north-west of Shakhrud at 02.02 at a depth of
10.3 km. There has been no information on injuries and damage.
Iran is among the top ten states with high seismological risks.
Earthquakes with a magnitude of over 7.0 happen every decade. An
earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 happened in Bam in the Kerman
Province in December 2003. Over 31,000 people died and about 42,000
were injured. Bam and its ancient fortress were destroyed.
