The police have registered an increase of interethnic tensions and
protests in the North-Western Federal District of Russia, Interior
Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev said at a plenary session on extremism in
Saint-Petersburg, ITAR-TASS reports.
One of the reasons for tensions is extremism caused by unemployment,
low wages, uncontrolled migration, urbanization, ecology, break of
stereotypes and lifestyle.
Nurgaliyev underlined that interethnic tension growth is a common
problem. The events in Norway and UK prove it, the minister reminded.
The fight against extremism and radicalism should not carried out by
the law-enforcers but should receive support from the society as a
whole.
