The manager of Fenerbahce FC, Aykut Kojaman, resigned today after UEFA
banned his team from taking part in this season's Champions League
over fixed matches, Trend reports.
Police suspect Fenerbahce of fixing matches. Football functionaries
were arrested in 12 Turkish provinces, including Istanbul and Abkara
on July 3. Fenerbahce President Aziz Yildirim was arrested over a
fixed match with Eskisehirspor from Istanbul in the 2010-2011 season,
which Fenerbahce won 3:1.
The president of Tranzonsport, Sadri Shener, and a member of the
Turkish Football Federation responsible for national teams, Levent
Kyzyl, were arrested.
Turkish media say about 150 may be arrested. It is the second
operation against football corruption in Turkey. 55 people were
detained in Istanbul in March-April 2010, including coaches and
players.
