693 enter Armenia's main university

693 students will start studies at Yerevan State University in 2011,
head of the university Aram Simonyan said, News Armenia reports.

Armenia switched to a 12-year school system. The number of students
will change. About 30-40 more may enter, Simonyan said on Tuesday.
Most will study for free. The faculties of law, history and
international relations will be fee-paying. About 100 will pay for
their studies. An academic year costs about $1900. There will be no
price changes this year.

The university receives $19 million, 30% of which is from state
co-financing. Most students enter the faculties of law, history and
international relations, philology, mathematics and foreign languages.
The number of students studying economics has dropped.

Simonyan concluded that they expect the number of students to increase
by 20-25% this year. The Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia
said that Armenian higher education centers will have 2150 prospective
students, according to data of August 3.
